The Aztec Goddess of Childbirth and Fertility.

Strangely enough for someone said to look after pregnant women, there's something a little sinister about Cihuacoatl if you ask me.

She is depicted as a skull faced old woman carrying the shield and spear of a warrior. Aztec childbirth was comparable to warfare and the women who died bearing child were afforded the same rites as a fallen warrior, a first class ticket to heaven. Those who weren't were rounded up and shipped to the Aztec underworld where they were given unsavoury jobs by ciucoatl, which sounds remarkably similar to Cihuacoatl.

She was the mother of Mixcoatl but abandoned him before his fire-drill shenannigans and helped create the fourth generation of humans with Quetzalcoatl.

She's also been spotted acting all Coatlicue-like.
