Nasty and naughty Aztec spirits of the deceased.

In Aztec times, women who died at childbirth were honoured as fallen warriors with their physical remains said to strengthen soldiers in battle. Their spirits, however, became Cihuateteo which were a whole lot more sinister.

They would hang around at crossroads as the sun set in the west and steal children, cause sickness and madness and seduce men into all kinds of sexual misbehavior at the orders of Ciucoatl.
