Giant children of Kashyapa and Danu. They were extremely powerful but not too bright and the promise of elixir by the pint glass had them rolling up their sleeves to help churn the cosmic ocean in no time.

They loved nothing more than taking the piss out of the gods, who knew deep down that they needed a little help to defeat them for good, but when their saviour in waiting turned out to be an all conquering King called Puranjaya of Ayodhya it seriously annoyed them.

'A mortal? All conquering? That's absurd !'

They had mocked him no end and made his life a misery at every opportunity, but now it dawned on them... he was the only one who could defeat the Danavas and save their holy butts.

Supersize-me portions of humble pie were eaten when the gods realised he was a descendant of the sun god Surya, and Indra himself went to the King to ask for his help.

The Giants were defeated by Paranjaya who was jacked up with the essence of Vishnu but he was never going to turn down the opportunity for some payback by humiliation because of the manner in which Indra asked for his assistance. He insisted on riding into battle on the back of Indra, but he was allowed to keep a little dignity when Puranjaya gave him the green light to take the form of a bull.

With the Danavas down and out, Indra threw them into the depths of the ocean and locked them there forever.
