Shinto Sun Goddess known as she who shines in Heaven. Number one child of Izanagi because he washed his left eye first.

Having a skinless flying horse crash through your loom and kill one of your bestest spinners can be a little unsettling at the best of times, but when the horse is dead, flayed and thrown by your storm god brother Susano in mad-rage mode it is doubly terrifying. Fearing the worst Amaterasu fled to a nearby cave and pulled a boulder across the entrance, leaving the world in total darkness. Obviously this wasn't a good thing so the gods put their thinking caps on.

Ama-tsu-mara the heavenly blacksmith was commisiond to come up with a spangly mirror which was nailed to a tree opposite Amaterasus hiding place as the god of good ideas had another one.

Step forward the boisterous Ama-No-Uzume. She had a bit of a reputation as an anything goes party animal and the gods looked on in anticipation as she brought out a bathtub. 'This is going to rock!'

Replacing her clothes with fallen leaves she climbed onto the upturned bathtub, peeling away the leaves and swinging her jubblies while she danced in a most suggestive manner. The gods were wolf whistling and whooping in delight as they cried for an encore. Amaterasu peeped out from the cave to see what all the fuss was about and was momenterily stunned by her reflection in the mirror. This peeping brought light back into the world and seizing his opportunity Tajikarawo pulled her out while the other Gods sealed up the cave. They were taking no chances.

Seeing her reflection made her realise how stunning she was and depriving the world of her beauty was just plain wrong, so Amaterasu climbed back into the sky to be admired by all.
