Having done away with their grandad Ymir and used all of the bits and bobs to make the world , Odin, Vili and Ve took a well earned trip to the sea-side.

Strolling along the beach they noticed two uprooted trees, one Ash and one Elm, washed up on the shore.

"Watch this" said Odin, and sculpted the stumps into the shape of the very first humans.

"Great!" said Vili "What do they do?"

"erm .. nothing" replied Odin

"Ok, watch this then" said Vili, and added wit and emotions.

"Great" said Ve, "but they aren't making any noise" so he added speach and threw in the five senses.

So the Ash became Ask and the Elm became Embla, the worlds very first humans, charged with populating the earth.
