Army of the dead. The previously brave soldiers who died gloriously in battle.

After they die, half of the slain are taken from the battlefield and carried to Valhalla by valkyries. These are the Einherjar, the warriors of Odin, those who live to fight.

Every day they are woken by Gullinkambi and march out to Idavoll where they have a jolly old time knocking seven bells out of each other. At dusk all broken bones and severed limbs are miraculously healed and they spend the evening surrounded by beautiful Valkyries, feasting on sahrimnir and mead from Heidrun, lovingly prepared by Andhrimnir. Death was good!

The other half of those slain in battle were Freyja's warriors. Those who only fight to protect themselves, family or goods. They found themselves at Sessrumnir but given old girls reputation as 'a bit of a goer' who's to say these guys weren't having every bit as much fun as those at Odin's place?

When Ragnarok rolls around the Einherjar will stand with the Gods as they fight against Hel and the giants.
