GEFJUN

Also known as : GEFION, GEFJON
Goddess of : Vegetation and Fertility | Hall : n/a | Mount : n/a

One of the Asynjur - The Goddesses of Asgard. Gefjun looks after vegetation and fertility.

Legend has it, King Gylfi offered her as much land as she could plough in a single day in exchange for a single night of nookie, but didn't bank on her being the Goddess of horticultural machinery. Nor did he expect her four sons to be big strapping oxen, and within twenty four hours they had ploughed the centre right out of Sweden. Talk about back-fires!

The land was then pulled out to sea and became Old Zealand, not to be confused with your new-fangled New Zealand, which is why it's the same size and shape as the great hole, now filled with water and known as Lake Mclaren. It's a lovely story but a swift glimpse at any Scandinavian map will show the two share absolutely no resemblence whatsoever. You can't trust anyone.

Gefjun could also be a cunningly disguised Frigg, as she brings good luck to marriages and also takes any girl that has died a virgin under her wing. I don't imagine she'll need very big wings.
