The heroic and nimble footed messenger of the Gods. Son of Odin and Frigg. Brother of Balder.

After the death of Balder, Frigg was understandibly upset. Hermod risked life and limb as he mounted Odins eight legged horse Sleipnir and rode for nine days and nights into the very bowels of helheim to try and retrieve him.

As you can imagine, Hel wasn't too keen to give up one of her souls but reluctantly agreed to release Balder if every single living thing shed tears for the likeable god.

'That shouldn't be too hard.' thought the ever optomistic Hermod, 'Everyone loved Balder', and off he went.

Things were going exactly to plan as everything he spoke to wept tears of sorrow for the deceased god of all-round loveliness. There was only one living thing left to ask and Hermod was brimming with confidence as he strode up to Thokk's cave...

'Old woman, Will you weep real tears of sorrow and help to release Balder from that dirty stinking hel hole?'

"NO!"

Hermod was stunned. 'What do you mean, no?' he asked.

'I mean... NO. I will not shed a single tear!'

'Why you #u*k%g miserable fu#*%g d#*% c*%# bi*#h' Hermod might have thought, or words to that effect, and i'm sure he was sorely tempted to shove his Gambantein staff where the sun don't shine.

As it turns out, Thokk was really Loki in old hag mode, he was never going to shed a tear as he was the one responsible for the whole sorry episode in the first place, and Balder remained firmly dead.
