The bravest and strongest giant in Jotunheim who got a bit cocky with Thor.

The problem started when Odin said " my 'orse be faster than yours" . The giants horse Gullfaxi did indeed have a golden mane, but it was no match for Sleipnir who had eight legs .. a little bit of an advantage in horse racing circles. Needless to say, the foolish giant lost another bet. Still, he was invited to Valhalla for post-race drinks but coudn't handle his mead and got a bit lairy, threatening to steal Valhalla and move it to Jotunheim. The Gods were quite happy where they were and called for Thor to implement a little coercion .. of the hammer variety.

"Alright, i'll fight ya, but you'll have to come to Grjottungard 'cos i left me weapon at home".

In the meantime, the giants had made a man of clay, who was nine rasts tall and three rasts broad under the arms, and stuffed it with the heart of a horse. Size is no guarantee of strength, or strength of character, and as Thor approached, the clay man pissed himself .. he was finished off by Thors servant Thialfi.

Hrungner had a triangular heart of stone, a huge thick stone shield and a stone weapon. Even his head was made of stone and while it may have been waterproof to prevent nasty soiling from the clay giants pee-pee it wasn't Thor proof.

The God of thunder let fly with Mjollnir and Hrungnir's head exploded into pebbles and dust. Thor did sustain a little damage himself though when shards of flint became lodged in his forehead and the giant fell forward trapping him beneath a huge leg. Magni sorted out the ' limb across neck' problem and the shrapnel was left for Groa to deal with.
