Q : Why dirty stinking demons?

A : I'm no theorist, geologist, archaeologist or myth meister i just have an interest in mythology. I was particularly interested in the whole 'demon' side of things, the what, where and why's. I figured that maybe the bad boys were getting some o.t.t. bad press so i did a little digging to see what i could find.

I never had any intention of trying to re-write mythology as i have the utmost respect for the religions and peoples of EVERY section covered (or to be covered) in this site, and despite the laid back and hopefully humerous approach to most entries, everyone of them has been researched to death and as close to 'real' as myth can get.

Intentional or not, mythology is naturally amusing. Granted some Pantheons are a little darker than others, but in general scraping off the jargon reveals the humour of it all. So i took it upon myself to peel away the darkness and gloom and try to put forward a case for demons in a more light hearted and accesible way, and dare i say it .. a more favourable light .. Like a holy defence lawyer but without the lies.

BUT, Having excavated the archives, let me tell you, i found so much more than i bargained for. Most notably, the line between gods and demons or spirits, good and bad, order and chaos is much finer than you might think, certainly finer than i ever imagined. And there's so much going on in the world of mythology, it's like the best soap operas all rolled into one only awesomer. Yes.. AWESOMER!

SO, with the url 'dirty stinking demons' already purchased i proceeded to change my entire approach and cover the whole of mythology... DOH!

Still, it's quite a catchy title, don't you think?

Q : Ooo.. kay. So, Why 'Gods Laid Bare'?

A : Of course they're not naked! Merely stripped of the jargon normally associated with mythology. Pick up most encyclopedias and mythology becomes confusology. Jargon here, kludge there, it makes mythology a chore and it just shouldn't be that way. As i mentioned above mythology is packed with natural humour and yet some writers want to make it soooooo serious. Lighten up guys!

But there was a second, devious and slightly shameful thought that crossed my mind. This is a new site, it needed hits but there was no way i was going to pay a kings ransom to some company to get google top ranked. Oh no. I'm not stupid, not all the time anyway. 'Naked' sells .. FACT. I have been a single bloke myself. I know that when a group of guys get together around the pc with a few beers it's not to check lottery results! So i may have played on the whole 'laid bare' theme just a little to try and harness the fingers of human nature.

Ok .. it's a blatant attempt to get more hits. Happy now !!?
