16 April 2008.

Much disapointment.

Warning : Rant Alert...
Whilst throwing myself into this whole mythology research lark , i was suprised, and not in a good way, to discover just how many religions and belief systems have fallen by the wayside since time began.

Those made extinct by force of nature, natural selection or their own stupidity i can totally understand. The Olmecs for example. What i find hard to digest is how certain religions, whilst preaching tolerance and 'thy shalt not kill' .. blah blah blah .. have poked and prodded rival beliefs out of existance.

Tibetan Bon-Po had their Gods 'defeated' by Buddha and so their belief system on the whole was pretty much destroyed.
'God' and his Christians saw to the Egyptians, in fact Christianity has annihilated more beliefs than i can be bothered to mention. And why? My god is bigger than yours, nah nah na na nah. It seems a lot of trouble based on a book of events that no-one can prove ever happened. No different to Hitler trying to create what he believed were the perfect race, from what i can see. Apart from the deaths of a zillion more innocent people who dared not to believe that God lived in the sky, killed people with plagues, had a son who was born in a tatty old stable, sent him to die nailed to a cross then claimed it was for the good of mankind. Sound absurd?

Worse still are the Conquistadors who not only destroyed the Aztecs and Incans but also burned every piece of literature they could find, replacing it with a pile of old clap-trap written by Spanish Monks who were on the payrol.

In a rare moment of disapointment amongst the joy and wonder of trawling the archives and putting together this site, i got to thinking how much we will never know about Gods from extinct races and beliefs, those manipulated out of existence by preachers with artistic licence or the mighty sword. Down the ages Mythology has really been a game where only the strongest will survive .. those with the strongest armies. Is that what religion is all about?

Rant over.
