NANAUTZIN

Aka : NANA, NANAUATZIN, NANAHUATZIN
God of : Scabs | Tonalli : n/a | Trecena : n/a

The seemingly insignificant God of not-a-lot dressed in a garment made from swamp reeds, mishapen, ugly and covered in scabs. But he was braver than he looked.

Having answered the Gods advert for a hero to light up the world, he arrived at the interview to find he was 50% of the total applicants.

Tecuciztecatl was the competition and he looked smart, dressed as a hummingbird and dripping with bling.

"I'm screwed" thought Nanautzin.

But what's this? The Gods had put a four strikes and your out system in place. Tecuciztecatl had tried and failed to jump into the sacrificial fire three times .. he was terrified! Wiping the sweat from his brow he wound up for one last try, he went charging towards the sacrificial flames and .."YOU'RE OUTTA THERE!" He'd bottled it again.

"This is it", thought little Nanautzin "This is my chance for immortality." He closed his eyes tight and charged the bonfire.

"Oh shit!" thought the Gods "He's got his eyes closed, what if he misses?!"

They had a point. He was their last hope, what if he did miss, and hit a tree, or fell off the top of the alter .. and died? The implications didn't bear thinking about. The gods closed their eyes too.

But they needn't have worried. Nanautzin hit the heart of the fire, Tecuciztecatl followed him in out of shame, which had implications, and the God previously known as the Scabby one became the fifth and current Sun God.

His new name was Tonatiuh and if the Gods had known he was going to be such a pain in the arse they would've thrown Tecuciztecatl in first!
