XOLOTL

Aka : XOCOTL
God of : Lightning, Fire, Sickness, Deformities | Tonalli : OLLIN (movement) |
Trecena : COZCACUAUHTLI (1 Vulture - 13 Rabbit)

The God of lightning and fire, sickness and deformities. Ok, it sounds bad, but read on ..

Quetzalcoatl's twin brother was the dark personification of Venus, the evening star, wrestling the sun down into darkness at .. sundown and guarding it through the perilous night.

Although he wasn't actually a Lord of the dead, Xolotl knew the underworld like the back of his hand. He helped his brother bring back the bones of the deceased so he could make the next generation of humans then ventured down once more to bring fire to the world, so who better to guide the deceased through the Krypton factor challenge which is the journey to Mictlan.

Unfortunately his feet were on backwards, he had a skeletal frame and a canine head. The Aztecs hated dogs thinking them filthy and immoral animals, though they did eat them, which is a bit ruff.

Rumour has it he cooked himself alive in a kettle which set a disturbing Aztec trend of ritual self-torture too, so it's really not hard to see why he was regarded as the dispenser of misfortune.

But on the plus side he is patron of the Aztec rubberball game known as Ullamaliztli, which makes him fine by me.
