Chief of the twelve solar Deities, the sons of Kashyapa and Aditi known as the Adityas.

He was a right eyefull being made of solid gold and all sparkly but you wouldn't want to look at him all the time. Saranja often got a headache from his constant radiance so she took her shadow and cloned an exact copy of herself to give her eyes a rest while Surya had his fun.

Anyway, she was there for the important bits like conceiving Yama, Yami and the Ashvins.

Surya and his chariot are pulled through heaven by a seven headed horse said to represent the seven Chakra's.

Sunday is Surya day.
