When Izanagi returned from the underworld and began his degunging, there were several strange occurrences, with deities falling out of all kinds of strange places.

As the god who fell out of Izanagi's pants it's no suprise that Chimatano is a phallic god, with his symbol (use your imagination) popping up at crossroads where passers-by would stroke it for good luck. In any other country this would probably result in arrest for indecent behaviour!

Chimatano is often associated with Dosojin.
