Alfhild was a bashful handmaid but no slouch with sword in hand. Goodness only knows who trained her.

She vowed to marry only a man who could defeat her in battle so when King Alf came sniffing around she put on her chainmail.

A viscous battle ensued with both going at it hammer and tongs, in a fighting sense. It was brutal, and while Alf didn't actually defeat her he did prove her equal which was good enough for Alfhild. Maybe she was getting lonely so lowered her sights a bit.
